Located in Shetou Township, Changhua County, Dong Xing Bee Farm is surrounded by beautiful scenery and warm temperatures year-round. Extensive planting of longan trees and lychee trees provide abundant food for bees. The fertile land not only nourishes plants but is also home to thousands of bees. The finest-quality longan honey and lychee honey is produced here in March and April every year, establishing an excellent reputation for Dong Xing Bee Farm.
Introduction
Dong Xing Bee Farm has been keeping bees for over 60 years. In the early days of beekeeping, Mr. Chou Yi-tung and his wife would carry bee boxes on their bicycle to place them in various places. The name of the bee farm consists of the Chinese character “Dong” from his name and “Xing” which symbolizes booming business and great outlook for the beekeeping business. Just as he had hoped, after years of hard work, the initial 120 boxes of bees grew to 300 boxes in the hands of the second-generation successor. The farm also joined Taiwan Beekeepers Association and became one of the first bee farms to get certified. Now, the family business reaches new heights as third-generation successor Chou Pei-hung takes over.

After succeeding the family business, Chou Pei-hung applied marketing concepts he has learned from working in his corporate job in the beekeeping business. In 2020, he created the “Chou’s Honey” brand, and started managing production and sales separately. In 2022, he introduced “Bee-Fun Experience Camp” to promote agrifood education, allowing more people to learn the importance of beekeeping and natural value of honey.
Turning a warehouse into a DIY experience classroom, the farm provides a lively tour guide to help visitors understand the social structure and habits of bees, including how to identify the queen bee, reason for crystallization of honey, and debunking urban legends about bees. Tour activities not only allow visitors to have fun but also enable them to establish a correct understanding of bees and honey, conveying the value of agrifood education. The most exciting part of the tour is to wear a bee suit and a veiled hat to put bee feed into the hives, entering the magical world of bees through the close contact. The most noteworthy of all is that the bee farm pays great attention to safety measures. As there is potential danger in having too many bees around, the bee farm will move most of the bee boxes to other areas, keeping only a few boxes for visitors to observe so as to ensure everyone’s safety.
