— A Beekeeper’s Home Living in Harmony with Bees
Today, the second-generation beekeeper, Mr. Tsai Jie-Xian, returned home in 2017 to carry on the family legacy. Inspired by the concept of a beehive, he established the brand “Bee Box.” In 2021, it became the first apiary in Taitung to receive the Traceable Agricultural Product (TAP) certification. Their longan honey has also consistently won top prizes in Taiwan’s national honey competitions, demonstrating outstanding quality.
Introduction
The story began with family care—when a relative needed royal jelly for recovery but found it too expensive, Wang Xin-He decided to raise bees himself. From cultivating bee colonies to producing royal jelly, this heartfelt decision unexpectedly began a lifelong bond with bees.
Over time, the apiary evolved from a production-focused farm into an experiential park that integrates education, leisure, and ecological awareness. Upon entering, visitors are welcomed by neatly arranged rows of beehives, known as the “Beehive Avenue,” resembling a small bee community and serving as the first stop to learn about bee life. Through guided tours and engaging storytelling, visitors gain a deeper appreciation of bees’ diligence and the vitality of the land.

As Tsai explains, bees are not only vital pollinators in the ecosystem but also their closest partners. By integrating apiculture with agriculture and tourism, “Bee Box” represents a form of sustainable agri-tourism with strong educational value. Through beekeeping and the production of honey, royal jelly, and pollen, the brand embodies a philosophy of coexisting with nature while building an internationally recognized beekeeping brand.
To produce a wider variety of honey, the team migrates their beehives across western Taiwan each year between March and April, traveling to areas such as Dagangshan and Dashu in Kaohsiung, as well as Zhuqi and Fanlu in Chiayi. Tsai humorously describes it as a nomadic journey following flowers—only instead of herding cattle or sheep, they travel with bees.
Features of Agricultural Tourism
Bee
Luye, Taitung, offers one of Taiwan’s most favorable environments for beekeeping, with abundant nectar and pollen sources that support healthy bee populations and high-quality honey production. Products include longan honey, lychee honey, and Huadong Valley honey. Among them, lychee honey is especially popular with Japanese visitors for its lingering floral aroma.
Family travelers make up the primary visitor group. Through guided tours, hive observation, eco-friendly activities, and DIY experiences such as beeswax herbal balm making, visitors can engage in hands-on learning. Led by professional beekeepers, guests enter the apiary wearing protective suits, observe the inner workings of hives up close, and learn about the roles within a bee colony.
Visitors also gain insight into nectar plants through educational activities, discovering which flowers are important for bees—such as longan, lychee, bidens pilosa, pomelo, citrus, and sumac—helping to foster awareness of bee-friendly environments.
