Introduction

In 2003, Chen Junlong returned to his hometown to run Zhuyuan Farm with his family. In 2018, it was renamed LvZhuyuan, and mainly planted green bamboo shoots and yam. In addition to providing tourists with various interesting farming experiences, it is also committed to the selling of all the vegetables grown by the family. Visitors can personally experience the making of any products available on the farm.

The farm mainly grows six kinds of yams. As the land where yams grow easily can causes soil degradation, 2,000 square meters are used for crop rotation every year. The most special variety is called the Keelung yam, also known as wild yam. It is an indigenous species in Keelung. As it rains a lot and the temperature is low, Keelung yams grow slowly, only 30 cm a year. It takes two years to harvest Keelung yams. They taste so creamy that some people say it resembles cheesecake. It’s twice as expensive as the common yam. The most special variety is called the Keelung yam, also known as wild yam. On the contrary, other kinds of yam can grow up to 260 cm each year. When yams are ready to be harvested, two or three people are needed to prevent them from breaking apart. The farm also grows common white yams; as they grow fast and large, they’re a profitable variety. There are also blood yams, field yams and purple yams, among others.

Features of Agricultural Tourism

Vegetables

Luzhuyuan Mountain Potato Farm has organized an “experience tour” in recent years. During the Chinese yam season from October to January of the following year, visitors can experience the fun of digging yam in the fields. The experience process aims to introduce the farm environment, and the process of digging the yam, mainly to harvest the white snow jade yam, and finally taste the flavorful meal. Other activities include DIY yam dumplings and yam cakes.

In addition to the DIY yam theme, the Green Bamboo Garden also has other rich “experience activities” in different seasons. Pulling radish in spring is most popular with children. It is fun and fulfilling. You can also experience making radish cakes, grass cakes or dried radish. Because the radish is mature, it has a pungent aroma and strong sweetness, unlike in the market that sells it half-ripe. The radish cakes always make tourists shout out “this is different from the breakfast shop!”
