Tung Tree

The Tung tree is planted throughout Taiwan. Every year in the early summer, you can enjoy the flowers of the Tung tree everywhere. At the turn of spring and summer, blooming the most are the Tung tree flowers in Miaoli, like flakes of snow, covering the mountain. Tung trees have three flowering periods a year, the well-known March – May, because the flowering period does not exceed four weeks, so it can easily fall due to wind and rain, it will bloom again from August-September and December, but it does not fall easily due to its smaller number, thus the flowering period is longer. In the early years, many Hakkas used the Tung tree as an economical crop, so the relationship between the Tung tree and the Hakka people runs very deep. Therefore, the Tung tree flower, which is known as the “May Snow”, has become the most beautiful cultural symbol of the Hakka, with extravagant Tung tree flower festivals held annually.
