Completely subversion of the ‘Astringent Flavour’ image of Jaboticaba GUOBAO ORGANIC FARM

“Jaboticaba”, also known as “grape tree”, is generally considered to be sour and bitter. However, refinement by the owner of Guobao Organic Farm, Cai Minghui, has made it juicier with thinner skin. It reaches 16 on the sweetness scale, making it sweeter than orange, thus completely subverting the stereotypical image of grape tree.

Fruits

Cai Minghui says that Jaboticaba are native to Brazil. They are a different species from grapes, and like guavas they belong to the myrtle family. They grow slowly and take at least nine years to grow into trees and bear fruit. They are very resistant to pests and are very suitable for organic planting. “Be kind to the earth and bring Jaboticaba to the public.”

4,700 Jaboticaba fruits are currently planted on the farm, and 100,000 kilograms can be harvested per year for processing. After the fresh fruit is fermented over three stages, only 10% of the essence is retained and made into dried fruit. The process is tedious to preserve complete nutrition without the use of chemical additives, so as to ensure tastiness and consumption with peace of mind. As a result, the little Jaboticaba has entered the health food market. With its enzyme fluid as the base, and reprocessing into powder, lozenges, capsules, and kombucha, the fruit may be presented in a variety of forms with as many as 40 related products. In addition, DIY jam gives children the opportunity to mash up the fruit happily and boil it for a fragrant aroma. They can also have a taste of ice cream, try fruit vinegar, and climb ropes and slopes, activities which are very suitable for both parents and their children.
