Jiang Yu-bao Organic Farm
“Jiang Yu-bao Organic Farm” is located at the foot of Mount Shimian in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County. The farm’s history dates back to the Japanese colonial period when the Jiang family migrated from Hsinchu to Hualien, eventually settling in Fengtian due to its excellent irrigation.
Introduction
In 1987, at the age of 22, the third-generation owner, Mr. Jiang Yu-bao, left his job in Taipei to return home and farm to care for his aging father. In 2002, he realized that high-profit farming models were causing the rapid loss of natural ecosystems, which inspired him to transform the farm into an ecological organic farm, beginning a path of “Green Beliefs” that has lasted over 20 years.
The core crops of the farm are organic edible lilies and mountain bitter melon. The edible lilies, introduced from Dutch varieties, take four years from breeding to harvest and possess nutritional value far exceeding common imported varieties. They were twice selected as ingredients for the Presidential Inauguration State Banquets in 2008 and 2016. Additionally, after over a decade of improvement and greenhouse design, Mr. Jiang successfully cultivated premium mountain bitter melon. The farm has now been passed down to the fourth-generation young farmer, Jiang Meng-xuan, who continues the mission of sustainable land management.
