JIMAO FARM
The cat-lover strays into a sea of flowers
A different form of farm management brings a good reputation

Kaohsiung Neimen is one of the earliest developed places in Taiwan, brimming with religious charm and a rich natural landscape. As the name suggests, “Jimao (Lucky Cat) Farm” has flowers and fresh fruits, in addition to being a paradise for cat lovers. The young owner, Ding Qunzhan, is a cat-lover and an expert in visual design. He incorporates an extraordinary sensitivity to color into his farm management.

Introduction

At present, the farm is planted with Anthurium, Vanda Orchid, Renanthera Orchid and Passion Fruit. Proportion of domestic and foreign flower sales is 50:50, and the defective rate is less than 1%. In addition, home delivery services such as flower material boxes and passion fruit are provided.

Anthurium flowers of Neimen are well-known throughout the country. The unique geology makes the waxed flowers more vivid. What is less known is that a lot of manpower and time are required, and they are constantly under threat of being wiped out by leaf blight infection. Once three typhoons arrived in a month, resulting in the collapse of the net rooms and infrastructure, a terrible sight indeed.

Ding Qunzhan continued to improve his agricultural knowledge and marketing concepts. He used photosynthetic bacteria to suppress bad bacteria, hence creating a secret-formula fertilizer. Since then four varieties of flowers and fruits have bloomed and were harvested, and the good quality of products led to countless business opportunities. Products were exported to Japan and sold domestically, and he finally managed to break even.

Features of Agricultural Tourism

He officially took over in 2018, and renamed the unknown farm to “Jimao farm”. The next year, the covid pandemic upheaved his entire plans. Faced with another challenge, materials, shipping costs, and currency exchange skyrocketed. The holding of rural events fortunately helped attract visitors and spread awareness, becoming a crucial point for the rebranding.

Ding Qunzhan knows that the anthurium is not suitable for contact with people, and so intends to convert it into an ecological classroom and set up a fern footpath. In the future, the main focus will be on Vanda orchid and the Renanthera orchid, as well as further develop leaf-picking, various DIY flowers, banquet on the farm, and other services.

In order to revitalize remote settlements, he cooperates with the head chef, Song Jiangzhen, as well as industry insiders of beekeeping, coffee, camping and other businesses to bring in the people and accelerate the formation of a local, multi-faceted tourism chain.
