A Culinary Boat Sailing Through the Waters of Penghu LONG-YING YUAN-BEI TIANMAMA
LONG-YING YUAN-BEI TIANMAMA

This is not a typical farm or fishery, nor is it a stationary shop or restaurant. It is a floating culinary boat that cruises through the seas of Penghu. The first floor houses a professional kitchen and a cozy indoor dining space, while the second floor features a spacious open-air deck with tables and chairs. The deck offers shaded areas, allowing guests to comfortably move around, enjoy the scenic views, and dine without being directly exposed to the sun. In 2016, it officially became part of the TianMaMa network as the “YUAN-BEI TIANMAMA Floating Culinary Boat,” now renowned as Penghu’s most well-equipped and highly rated “floating restaurant.”

Introduction

Departing from Qitou Fishing Port in Baisha Township, Penghu, the boat’s itineraries vary daily depending on tides, ocean currents, and seasonal changes. For instance, April and May are ideal for cuttlefish fishing, May to September is squid season, and from June to September, night fishing for small squid is available. Guests can also experience cage-net fish feeding, explore fishing villages and intertidal zones, cruise around Yuanbei Island, venture to uninhabited islands, watch flocks of seagulls, or try their hand at sea fishing.

Each journey lasts about 3–4 hours or 5–6 hours, depending on the season and the specific requests of guests. During the summer months (April to September), trips usually begin at 2:00 PM and conclude around 8:30 PM. In addition to the various activities, guests can enjoy afternoon tea and dine while watching the sunset over the sea. The menu is entirely based on the fresh catch of the day, ensuring every trip offers a distinct and memorable dining experience.

Fish Farming

A guest favorite is the “Rice-Stuffed Squid,” where a whole squid is filled with glutinous rice and then deep-fried. This dish is inspired by Penghu’s Qingming Festival tradition of “Shell Rice” (Ke Zai Fan), in which large clam shells are used to pack vegetable rice for a convenient, portable meal.

Another popular dish is the cleverly named “Marine Corps,” an appetizer that combines Penghu’s anchovies with the region’s famous peanuts, symbolizing both navy and army elements. Other well-loved dishes include seafood porridge brimming with shrimp, squid, and seaweed, and green onion-braised giant grouper, freshly sourced from their own cage farms. However, the availability of these dishes depends on the day’s catch. If these options aren’t available, there may be other equally delightful surprises on the menu, making every sea voyage a unique and exciting culinary adventure.
