Mao-zai-cun Rose Garden is located in the mountainous area of Houli District, Taichung City. Following the winding mountain roads upward, a secret rose realm surrounded by flower fields and greenery quietly unfolds. The garden covers an area of approximately 2,000 ping (about 6,600 m²) and features over 800 varieties of roses. With its rich colors and lineages, it is one of the representative flower-viewing spots in central Taiwan and a vital base for the “Tree Rose” industry in Taiwan. Roses bloom in clusters along the hillside, offering flowers to admire throughout the four seasons, while a light, elegant fragrance fills the air.
Introduction
The garden’s pathways are designed based on the concept of natural exploration, allowing visitors to encounter roses blooming in quiet corners and encouraging a slower pace. This is more than just a garden for photography; it is a modern farm that integrates production, technology, and brand management. The owner, Ruan Yu-cheng, has been dedicated to tree rose cultivation since 2017. By using social media platforms as primary channels for management and exchange, he has successfully built Taiwan’s largest and most active rose gardening community, attracting over 100,000 floral and gardening enthusiasts.

With the philosophy of “Making Roses a Part of Life,” Mao-zai-cun Rose Garden offers several reservation-based agritourism and floral experiences. Visitors are invited to step into the garden and experience the diverse forms of roses through observation and hands-on participation. Experience activities include in-depth garden tours, hand-tied bouquets, succulent arrangements, and the highly popular rose jam and rose hydrosol (floral water) workshops.
Features of Agricultural Tourism
Flora
In the rose jam workshop, visitors slowly simmer fresh rose petals with sugar and lemon juice, experiencing the layered intertwining of floral and fruity scents. The hydrosol workshop allows visitors to observe the delicate process of extracting rose fragrance using low-temperature vacuum distillation equipment. The garden also offers various self-produced processed rose products, including rose jam, dried petals, and rose hydrosol. The jam is sweet, tart, and fragrant—perfect for pairing with toast or yogurt. The dried petals use freeze-vacuum technology to preserve their scent for baking and crafts, while the rose hydrosol is loved by visitors for its fresh and delicate aroma. From flower viewing and hands-on experiences to purchasing souvenirs, Mao-zai-cun Rose Garden connects production, processing, and lifestyle aesthetics, serving as a unique agritourism destination that blends agricultural innovation with travel.
