Introduction
Located in White Stone Valley Leisure Agriculture Area, Nong Yi Jhan Farm is only 5 minutes away on foot from the White Stone Valley Suspension Bridge, the so-called “Ladder of Taipei” and is right next to Houhu Wetlands (Heart Pond). Besides being surrounded by the beautiful mountain, forest and rural scenery, the Farm features an extremely rich natural and ecological landscape. The owner of the Farm, Lin Cui-e, and her seven family members have lived here for nearly 300 years. Enjoying life in the mountains, they grow hundreds of organic vegetables on their own land. Combining leisure agricultural tourism, food and agriculture experience, rural meals, and other services, they devote themselves to sharing the wonderful life of “vegetable farmers in the mountains.”
Here, you can not only buy seasonal vegetables and fruits grown by the Farm, but also join hands-on farming activities, including soil preparation, weeding, vegetable and fruit growing, fertilizer management, plant disease and pest control, harvesting, etc. In addition, the rural cuisine prepared by the Lin sisters using the family’s produce is often in short supply because they are made of fresh ingredients and have a unique flavor. For example, vegetable rolls, savory rice pudding, strawberry rice balls, etc. For the inhabitants of Taipei living among the hustle and bustle of the city, “Nong Yi Jhan” is not only a good place to get close to nature and enter a vegetable garden, but also an excellent choice to actually experience “from farm to table” and enjoy leisure activities on holidays.
Characteristics
Vegetable
The farm mainly grows organic vegetables (strawberries, some fruits, vanilla plants, nectar flowers and native vegetables, etc.). Different crops are planted according to the four seasons. In addition to providing home delivery, it also serves as a source of experience teaching and creative ingredients and cuisine, and raises bees to create a biologically diverse ecological farm. Among them, the farm located under the Tongxin Pool is a wetland, so the planting methods are mostly off-field planting such as bag farming and potted plants. The soil is imported peat soil with good quality.
Bee
Visitors can take a guided tour to hand-pick vegetables, make tangyuan and jam with the owner and learn about organic farming. They cherish the food on their plates. They can also reserve a guided tour to learn about bee ecology, taste honey and eat natural “beehive gum” as well as participate in other activities.
The colorful “wangui” is another one of their best-sellers. Made of rice flour, organic vegetables, pumpkins, taros, cashew nuts, wolfberries, peanuts, dried radishes, and seasonal vegetables, the dish has the creative finishing touch of “hone miso sauce” on top. It won second place in the strongest wangui competition in Northern Taiwan. The strawberry vegetable roll is also popular. With the wrapping made of wholewheat flour and stuffing composed of sweet potatoes, lettuce and other seasonal produce as well as asparaguses and fresh strawberries, the strawberry vegetable roll is both beautiful looking and delicious.
