Raised on Reishi Mushrooms! Producing Nutrient-Packed Eggs In a Free-Range Environment TREE-EGG

“TREE-EGG” occupies a sprawling space of over a thousand square meters, where 4,000 hens are raised in a humane and free-range environment. The chickens roam freely between outdoor courtyards and elevated indoor areas, enjoying the sunshine and feasting on supplements like reishi mushrooms and flaxseed. These eggs are of outstanding quality, containing six times the Omega-3 levels found in regular eggs. The farm also offers a distinctive chicken essence, rich in unique polysaccharides, free of any gamey taste. Its smooth, sweet flavor, reminiscent of chicken broth, makes it a standout product in the market.

Introduction

Despite being established for only three years, the couple managing it—32-year-old Wang Guan-Ze and 33-year-old Xiao Li-Zhen—have built a strong reputation through online marketing. This has led to the development of unique agritourism experiences that attract families. Visitors can enjoy interactive activities such as feeding chickens, collecting eggs, and baking egg cakes while experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of the farm. The seamless journey from farm to table is packed with both fun and educational opportunities.

“TREE-EGG” traces its roots to a 30-year-old heritage chicken business. After Xiao Li-Zhen took over the family business, she upheld her parents’ dedication to humane practices. In late 2020, the farm transitioned to focus on raising layer hens, moving away from traditional auction systems. Through Facebook, Instagram, and short promotional videos, they effectively marketed their high-quality eggs, quickly expanding from 500 hens to 2,000 in just six months.

According to Wang Guan-Ze, the hens at the farm live naturally, engaging in behaviors like dust bathing, climbing trees, and even catching snakes. They are fed a diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, and plant-based feed, along with supplements like reishi mushroom powder, reishi extract, flaxseed, and probiotics. This results in eggs with firm, full yolks that carry a subtle sugarcane aroma and are rich in unique polysaccharides.

With his background in performing arts, Wang Guan-Ze has creatively integrated storytelling into the free-range farm tours. A teacher, dressed as a hen, leads children in interactive singing sessions and sensory exploration of the odor-free chicken coops. Children can interact with the happy, carefree hens, watching eggs roll down conveyor belts, while laughter fills the air.

The tour continues with hands-on activities in a classroom, where families can bake egg cakes and steam eggs in bamboo tubes. These sessions are exclusively available through online reservations, with a monthly limit of four sessions and a maximum of 50 participants per session.

Wang Guan-Ze expressed hope that the tours not only bring joy, but also raise awareness about the ethical concerns of caged egg production. “Three hens squeezed into a space the size of an A4 sheet, unable to move their entire lives—that’s unbearably cruel”, calling for reflection and change in farming practices.
