Located in the Gaoliao community at the foot of Mount Chike in Hualien, Qing You Ling Experience Farm nurtures unique agricultural products under the rays of the Tropic of Cancer.
Introduction
Under the management of second-generation owners Huang Wen-zheng and Lu Yu-hui, the land successfully transitioned from traditional daylily and lemon farming to a specialized orchard centered on “Bicolor Dragon Fruit”. While it looks like a standard dragon fruit on the outside, cutting it reveals a dreamlike red-to-white gradient. Its flavor combines the crispness of white-flesh varieties with the sweetness of red-flesh ones, earning it a reputation as a premium fruit.

Owner Huang Wen-zheng noted that the biggest challenge after production and processing is sales. While Mount Chike draws crowds during the daylily season, most visitors head straight for the flowers and leave quickly. To break through the intense competition of online marketing, they upgraded the farm to a Sixth Sector Industry model, developing experience activities to draw visitors directly into the orchard. The couple hopes that by “packaging agricultural products with stories,” they can drive regional prosperity and showcase the diverse agricultural vitality of Mount Chike.
Features of Agricultural Tourism
Fruits
The farm actively promotes “Sixth Sector Industrialization,” integrating production, processing, and experiential activities. The most popular family activity is the “Dragon Fruit Tapioca Pearls DIY,” where visitors knead dragon fruit with cassava starch to create translucent pearls that resemble “fish eyes”. This fun activity integrates the concept of “diet and health” from food and agricultural education into daily life. Additionally, the farm offers reservation-based farmwork such as fruit picking, weeding, thinning, and bagging, allowing travelers to experience the daily hard work of farmers.
The farm’s developed products are also highly favored. For instance, the “Iced Perfume Lemon Slices” use a low-temperature process to create a crispy texture like thin crackers. The Dragon Fruit Jam includes finely chopped fruit peel to add texture and visual layers. Visitors can enjoy vibrant drinks made from dragon fruit and perfume lemon or purchase local specialties such as Small Oil Chrysanthemum, Honey-scented Black Tea, and Camellia Oil.
