Originally a guava plantation, Shetou Mushroom Farm in Shetou Township, Changhua County, is now a paradise of oyster mushrooms. This transformation is all attributed to Chiang Meng-yu’s father. In 2006, he made the decision to transform the farm by cultivating oyster mushroom, breathing new life into the land. As time passed, the farm’s accomplishments shined brighter, continuously achieving new milestones.
Introduction
In 2010, it successfully demonstrated its commitment to food safety and quality through the Traceable Agricultural Product (TAP) system. By 2016, it took big strides toward organic farming, showing its devotion to environmental protection. Currently, Shetou Mushroom Farm has 23 chambers for cultivation of oyster mushroom, producing approximately 1.4 million grow kits annually. They are a popular supplier to traditional markets, hypermarkets, restaurants, supermarkets and even schools due their excellent quality.
At the heart of mushroom cultivation is the grow kit, which contains wood chips, soybean powder and rice bran sterilized at high temperature for mushroom growth. The grow kit is placed in an air-conditioned chamber with precision temperature and humidity control. In approximately 60 days, when the mycelium matures, mushroom growth is stimulated at low temperature, which mimics the rapid growth of wild mushrooms in harsh weather. During this process, the farm’s meticulous management will prevent bacterial diseases, ensuring the quality, quantity and appearance of the oyster mushrooms, which are harvested early every morning to maintain optimal freshness.

With the addition of Chiang Meng-yu, Shetou Mushroom Farm is infused with youth and vitality. In 2023, he launched their mushroom brand “Woo-Mushroom”. Not only does he pursue excellence in the quality of mushrooms, he also establishes deeper connection with consumers by communicating the value of agriculture through agrifood education. Whilst his father emphasizes mass production and economic efficiency, Chiang Meng-yu’s vision goes beyond traditional thinking. He wishes to connect the farm with the outside world through agrifood education, create more tourism and farm experiences, and make oyster mushrooms one of the highlights of tourism in Shetou, injecting more vitality and cultural value into the land.
Features of Agricultural Tourism
Vegetable
Specially designed experiential area within the farm allows visitors to get an in-depth understanding of how oyster mushrooms are cultivated. Tree branches gathered from outdoor are used to decorate the area, evoking the pastoral charm of rural living. Besides learning about the cultivation of oyster mushrooms and picking them personally, you can also buy fresh oyster mushrooms and mushroom crisps at the farm. Carefully baked and seasoned with a little black pepper, the mushroom crisps are incredibly crispy and absolutely addictive. You can also bring home a grow kit to grow your own mushrooms. All you need to do is refrigerate the grow kit for eight hours, make a small opening in the packaging and spray a little water every day. Six to seven days later, oyster mushrooms the size of a $50 coin will sprout. You can harvest and cook them directly. To grow more mushrooms, simply rest the grow kit for three to four weeks, then repeat the process!
In addition to being a production site for oyster mushrooms, Shetou Mushroom Farm is also the ideal place for visitors to personally experience nature and agriculture. Walking into the greenhouse and seeing thousands of grow kits arranged in neat rows, you will feel the magical power of nature, understand the technology and wisdom in the farming, and bring back a unique souvenir. Here, at the farm, every moment is a perfect opportunity to explore and learn.
